Perhaps the best rendition of the Nintendo classic racer, Mario Kart 7 is pimped out with some new, unexpected innovations. Wisely, Nintendo has not mucked with the successful formula. You select your character from a roster of racers and the more races you win, the more rewards (racers, tracks) you unlock. However, you have the option now of using the gyroscope controls to race with a first person perspective. Simple but good stuff. All of the familiar courses have returned with some new ones including a Donkey Kong Jungle course, Rainbow Road and Music Park which has racers cruising along keyboards and weaving around massive musical notes.
The most inventive additions though - the glider wings and underwater driving are what really changes the base Mario Kart gameplay. Granting they take a bit of getting used to, the glider wings are a game changer. If used correctly, they can give you a considerable advantage over the other racers. The underwater portions (especially during the retro Koopa Beach track) change things up and open new areas, racing options.
